New Year, Same Me? A New Year Post

Hello, everyone!

First of all, Happy New Year! 2019 is here and so am I πŸ˜€

I hope you’re all doing well and had a wonderful holiday, I certainly had a nice downtime with my family. Everyone gathered together on New Year’s Eve and we had a great dinner πŸ™‚ But now I’m back and ready to get back in the game, especially after WordPress kindly reminded me that today is my 3 Year Blogiversary!

When I took my break back in November, I told you I’m planning on starting a dessert shop. Right now I’m in the middle of developing my recipes and planning and testing out the best dessert/flavor/etc combination. So if you have any suggestions for any type of dessert, let me know in the comments so I can try them out!

I’m also still working as a marketing manager and teaching Math and Physics part-time so that’s taking up a lot of my time. But the time I have left I spend reading and watching Netflix shows, so I don’t really have much to complain about. Mostly I’m just excited to get back to blogging! I probably won’t update very often, but who am I kidding? I’ve never been the most active blogger anyway haha. But I’m definitely going to do my best to keep the posts coming so I hope you’ll be here for it πŸ™‚

Last year, I posted a list of book/blog related things I’d be ditching for the year instead of New Year’s resolutions, so I thought I’d do it again this year and see what I can come up with. The things I’d be ditching this year are:

The Whole ‘Just Another Chapter’ Thing

Sometimes when I read before bed, I’d be very tired and get sleepy pretty quickly after a whole day’s work, but I still manage to make myself read ‘just another chapter’ and end up sleeping really late and waking up not well-rested. So that’s going to stop this year. Hopefully.

My Book Ban

I think one and a half years is long enough to let me master self-control and now I can be trusted to go to the bookstore and not come home with a whole bag of books I probably wouldn’t be able to read. So now the question is: should I leave 2018 books in 2018 and just focus on this year’s books, or do I read some of last year’s books before buying the newer ones?

Dark Colors

I wear a lot of black, brown, dark blue and green clothes, but now I’m thinking that’s so last year! I’ve always been very self-conscious and usually avoid bright colors, but this year I’m looking forward to wearing more white and pinks and reds. Maybe not yellow, though. I don’t think I’m that confident yet πŸ™‚

And while we’re here, I’m going to add another list of things I want to do this year. They’re not resolutions, not really. More like goals? πŸ™‚

To post more ‘random’ reviews

Because the name of the blog is Of Reading and Random Things. So I’ve decided that every now and then I’m going to test out recipes that are shared on Facebook or Instagram to see if they’re worth making, if they’re easy enough to follow, etc. And other than recipes, I’m probably going to post movie/tv show reviews as well.

To read and watch more foreign books/movies/TV shows

I actually love foreign movies. Not the English dubbed versions, of course, because they always sound weird. But in the original language. I think it’s really cool to try to find words that sound similar to English words, the sentence structures and in the end if I could learn another language, then great! After all, watching English movies was how I learned English in the first place πŸ™‚

To go on a vacation!

I just really want to go on a vacation. I don’t know if I’ll actually go yet, but it’s going on this list.

Or at least I want to πŸ™‚

To lose weight

I’m just going to put this here because even though I don’t really do it, I still put it on a list every year and I don’t want to break tradition πŸ˜‰

Okay! I think that’s about it for now. I’m really looking forward to making this year even better than last year, and I’m hoping to do a lot more awesome things before the year ends. And if you have any ideas for flavor combinations, or maybe if there’s a weird/unique dessert that you love, please tell me in the comments! The weirder the better πŸ™‚

  1. Best of luck in the new year! I always find it uplifting when I see so many lovely people with such positive new year’s resolutions that aren’t all about cutting things out of their lives but bringing things into them. That said, I should maybe take a leaf out of your book for not buying books this year until I’ve tackled my tottering pile from last year…

    1. Happy New Year!
New Year resolution posts are always fun to read, but I’ve found that it can be overwhelming to juggle existing responsibilities and all the new goals set for the year. At least for me it is 😊
I think that’s why a lot of New Year resolutions end up being forgotten halfway through the year?
Good luck with your TBR pile and thanks for the comment!

  2. Happy New Year! This is such a good idea to ditch things instead of taking them on- love it! hehe I wish I could ditch the whole “just another chapter” thing but I know I’d totally fail πŸ˜‰ I love foreign movies too πŸ˜€ And I hope you do get to go on a vacation and have a wonderful time! Awesome goals- good luck!

    1. Happy New Year to you too! Yeah, it’s so much easier to say ‘no’ than ‘yes’ sometimes (as bad as that sounds haha)
I haven’t had much success with ditching ‘just another chapter’ yet, but hopefully I’ll get there 😊
Yeah, foreign movies are great, and I’m so happy that they’re adding more on Netflix
      Thank you so much! 😁
