Hello, everyone! It’s been a while. Again.
I see WordPress has a new editor now and it looks super cool! Can’t wait to experiment and play around with it 🙂 But I think that’s going to have to wait. Because as you can see from my title, I’m ending the year a little early.
So let’s do a little recap of 2018! Honestly, the first half of 2018 was pretty great. I was working at a digital marketing company (it was supposed to be an internship, but I didn’t work like how I imagine an intern would?), my co-workers were great and we’re all still friends even though I left in July, and everything was pretty awesome.
I went to Jump Street! for the first time. If you don’t know, it’s basically a gigantic room with trampoline floors. I had no idea that jumping around on a bouncy surface would be SO TIRING but it was 😀
Another first for me was going for bubble sport. It was very awkward, it was hot, and it was humiliating running around in a giant hamster ball. 10/10 would do it again haha 🙂
In March I went to the orchestra and watched an amazing performance, Mozart in Prague. AND I also went to my very first concert ever, which happened to be a One Republic concert because I received free tickets 🙂
The concert was amazing, it’s completely different from listening to the same music on Spotify. But as much as I enjoyed it, I probably won’t go to another concert anytime soon. Or ever (maybe). I just really, really dislike crowds. It was loud, crowded, people were stepping on each other’s feet and I’d rather stay at home and watch it on TV. 🙂
I went to the circus for the very first time, and I had the best time with my sisters and friends. And in September, my family and I went to celebrate my mom’s birthday in Puncak, Indonesia, and it was really great!
And last, but not least, I had my graduation ceremony in October 🙂 (no photos though haha)
So, yeah. 2018 has been pretty great. But just like every other year, there are bad things that happened, too.
In February, my grandmother had a stroke and caused her to not be able to walk. She also struggled with her speech and it was very difficult to communicate with her. July 2018 was the one-year anniversary of my grandfather’s death. And a few days after my graduation on a Tuesday, my grandmother had another attack that left her unconscious for days in the hospital.
My flight wasn’t until that Saturday, so I couldn’t really do anything except send my prayers and hope for the best. And on Saturday, I immediately went to the hospital from the airport. My grandmother had been unconscious the whole time, but her head sort of moved a little when I talked to her, so I really hope she heard me. But 10 minutes after I left the room so my aunt could go inside (only one person was allowed in the room at a time), she passed away.
Everyone told me that my grandmother had been waiting for me before she could pass on, but now I can’t help but think that maybe she wouldn’t have died if I didn’t go home? I don’t know.
My mom said that before she got sick, my grandmother said ‘since Maddie is coming back on the 10th, we’ll have people come over on the 11th to celebrate her graduation’. And in a way, she was right? I came back on the 10th, and on the 11th, we had people come over but it was for her funeral.
Anyway. That’s the major ‘bad’ thing that happened to me in 2018 (I don’t want to go into anything else). But ever since I was a kid, I was a lot closer to my grandparents than my parents. So losing both of them on less that two years is really terrible.
I’ve never been the most consistent blogger. I don’t have a set blogging schedule and sometimes I go missing for weeks at a time. This is not news. We all know it. But right now, I really don’t have the motivation to even post anything inconsistently.
So I’m ending 2018 early, and I’m going to focus on my work, my family, and my dream of opening a dessert shop (wish me luck!). I’m also staying away from social media for now. But I’m planning to get back to blogging in January 2019, so if you’re worried, don’t be. I’ll be back and hopefully, have a better system so I can post more regularly haha.
In the meantime, don’t forget me (or do, it’s up to you) and keep on being awesome. I’ll see you guys next year!
