To Blog or Not to Blog That is the Question?

Hello, everyone!

Today I thought I’d share with you something a little more… personal? Is that the right word to use for this? Well, anyway, I just wanted to talk about some things that happened and how I almost quit blogging. I don’t like sharing my personal issues on the internet. I never post any ‘life problems’ on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and I never want to. And I definitely don’t want to post about them here.

BUT. I do want to share this with you.

I think it would help me stop questioning myself if I actually posted it here. Maybe. So, if you don’t mind reading about my blogging problems, keep reading 🙂

So last year (wow, it’s so weird to think of 2017 as last year), I only posted on my blog 6 months out of 12. And when I say 6 months, I’m being very generous. My blogs posts were irregular, weeks would go by before another post went up. The year started out fine, actually. I had a schedule and I stuck to it. But after that, I don’t even know what happened. I was really questioning why I even started this blog in the first place. When I really sat down to think about it, it came down to 3 things.

1.I had problems focusing

With everything that was going on last year, including my dissertation, internship, final projects and other school-related things, not to mention personal/family issues. I won’t get down to the nitty-gritty but it felt like my attention was pulled in so many different directions that I just didn’t have the time to think of blog posts to write.

One does not simply foc..

2.I wasn’t really reading, so why blog?

Yeah. I wasn’t really reading much, so why bother blogging? How could I be a ‘book-blogger’ when I couldn’t even finish one book in weeks? I didn’t even buy any new books since March or April last year. In hindsight, that’s probably a good thing because I still have SO MANY books I haven’t read.

3.I wasn’t blogging much/at all anyway, so why not just stop?

Like I said, I barely posted anything last year because of various reasons. And for the last few months, I’ve really been considering stopping.

But I didn’t. And here’s why.

I started this blog because I love to read.

And just because I haven’t been reading as much doesn’t mean I don’t love it anymore. I still want to read and talk about books and get upset because my book covers don’t match or worse, the heights are all different. I want to fangirl when my favorite ship sets sail and get angry because I read a standalone that turned out to be the first in a series. Where else can I express all of that if not here? It’s not like I have 3 other readers hidden in my closet who could jump and cry with me…

This is my me time

I know, I know. I was barely even online last year so what kind of ‘me time’ is this? But really. I love writing posts on this blog. I really enjoy putting together a new entry, maybe with photos or gifs or just something funny if I could come up with it. And I absolutely love reading comments and talking to you guys. With having to be a ‘responsible adult’ the rest of the time, I love having this outlet where I can just talk or joke and read about books and whatever random things people are posting.

I love this blog

I’m definitely not the best blogger on the internet, far from it. My blog is not the best blog, or the biggest or has the most inspirational/motivational/thought-provoking/you name it content. But I love it. It’s my little corner of the gigantic internet and I’m really proud of it, warts and all 😀 . And even though I’ve always said that I blog for me, I am extremely thankful for all of you guys who read what I have to say. I never actually thought that people would care enough to read what I write, but having you guys here is seriously the best and I am so grateful.

Okay. That ended up longer than I thought. But yeah. It feels really good to let this out and share it with the world. So in the end, I won’t quit blogging. I’m not a quitter! But that doesn’t mean I’ll force myself to stick to a schedule or things like that because I do have other things going on like work, for example. I’m definitely going to try to be better than last year though! I don’t know when or if I’ll stop blogging in the future, but for now, I’m still going to be here 😀

Thanks for reading!!
